Crofton Diving Corporation will be conducting underwater cable laying operations crossing the Norfolk Harbor Entrance Reach from Willoughby to Hampton, east of and parallel to the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. On Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a complete closure of the inbound and outbound lanes of the navigation channel. The alternate date for this operation is Sunday, February 3, 2019, during the same times. Equipment on site will be the BUNNY C and TEDDI C and a crew boat, CAPT CROFTON. Each vessel will monitor VHF channels 13 and 16. Vessels are requested to proceed in this area with extreme caution, as operations will only permit channel crossing with prior radio contact and in only extreme emergencies. MARINERS ARE ADVISED THAT CROFTON DIVING CORPORATION WILL BE CONDUCTING CABLE LAY OPERATIONS STARTING JANUARY 19, 2019, UNTIL MARCH 15, 2019. THE OPERATIONS WILL BEGIN AT 7 A.M. AND END AT 5 P.M ON EACH DAY THROUGH FEBRUARY 3, 2019. ON FEBRUARY 4, 2019, THE OPERATION WILL TAKE PLACE 24 HOURS EACH DAY UNTIL IT ENDS. THE OPERATIONS WILL OCCUR AT THE NORFOLK HARBOR ENTRANCE FROM WILLOUGHBY TO HAMPTON. THE STARTING POSITION IS 36 – 58’5.45″N,76 -17’50.48″W. THE COMPLETION POSITION IS 37 – 0’45.32″N 76 -19’14.45″W. ALL CABLE LAY OPERATIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED EAST OF THE HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE AND TUNNEL STRUCTURE. CABLE LAY OPERATIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED UTILIZING THE CABLE JET SLED METHOD AND PROPULSION FOR THE LAY BARGE WILL BE BY PULLING ANCHOR. PULLING WILL BE CONDUCTED IN 3500 INCREMENTS. DIVING OPERATIONS ARE ANTICIPATED DURING THIS ACTIVITY. ALL EQUIPMENT WILL BE PROVIDED WITH THE NORMAL NAVIGATIONAL DEVICES CONSISTENT WITH REGULATORY DIRECTIVES INDICATING TO ANY POTENTIAL TRAFFIC TO STAY CLEAR OF DIVERS. VESSELS ARE REQUESTED TO PROCEED IN THIS AREA WITH CAUTION AND NO WAKE WITHIN 500 OF THE ABOVE COORDINATES. THE LEAD TOWING VESSEL FOR THE PROJECT WILL BE THE CROFTON BUNNY C AND CREWS WILL BE MONITORING THE FOLLOWING VHF CHANNELS 13 & 16.
