Sheridan Shore Yacht Club was formed to encourage the recreational boating, seamanship, water safety and navigation, and to provide and maintain a suitable facility for the recreation and use of its members. The club provides support for fishing, sailboat racing, and social activities of its members. Sheridan Shore Sailing School, it provides classes in sailing, operating boats, navigation water safety, and racing sailing. Membership is open to all who are interested in boating, water safety, fishing and similar activities. The club is located on the north shore of Wilmette Harbor close to Lake Michigan. The harbor is located in Wilmette Illinois about 16 miles north of downtown Chicago. It forms the mouth of the North Shore Channel, a man made channel which flows from the harbor in a southerly direction to a location near Foster and Kedzie in Chicago where water from the channel joins the north branch of the Chicago River.
