The Oakland Bay region and small town of Shelton lie in the shadow of the Olympia National Forest. The town of Shelton is on the western side of Oakland Bay at the end of seven mile long Hammersley Inlet. The marina's small network of concrete docks includes a mix of open slips, boathouses, and side-tie space. On the shore is Shelton Yacht Club's light blue home-with its sixties-style slightly pitched roof. Surrounding the Port is a fairly industrial upland, including an adjacent lumber operation.
