How long have you been manager at Port Annapolis?

I've been general manager for about 13 years, but I have been at this marina for 30 years.

How did you get involved in marina management?

I started out as a yard worker and then I learned to run the equipment. Service manager was my next step, and after 10-years I became general manager. I spent my childhood on the water because my dad built boats, and we loved sailing.

What do you feel is important to the future of boating?

I think it is important to get kids interested. I am on the board of the Marine Trades Association of Maryland andwork with the Annapolis Community Boating group. Both of these groups strive to interest young people in boating.Port Annapolis also takes part in the STEM program for local schools and hosts student group trips to learn aboutboating, working and living on the water.

What is your favorite part of the job?

First of all, the people. Port Annapolis is a true community. We have 30 live-aboards here, and it is their home. Our other slipholders love the resort feeling and come to relax when they can. This is their getaway, and we make it enjoyable. My second favorite part is that I get to wear shorts to work.

What is high on your bucket list?

I have some things I can cross off. Last summer, I chartered a boat in the British Virgin Islands for two weeks. Another great thing is seeing the Ravens win another Super Bowl!

Favorite Book?

Chesapeake by James Michner.

Favorite Movie?

Master & Commander

Favorite place to vacation?

Anywhere there is warm sun and warm water, and if there is a boat involved, that's even better.
